Pierson WWI Memorial Project

The "Pierson WWI Memorial Project" is an endeavour I began to mark the centennial commemorations of WWI.  Five of my great-grand uncles from Pierson, Manitoba served in the conflict, three of whom would never return home from the battlefields of Europe.  In surviving copies of their letters, they often mentioned the hometown friends they were serving alongside.  The photo above, taken from the Pierson local history book "Harvests of Time," shows some of the first men from the town to enlist.

In their memory, I am updating and improving the Find-A-Grave profiles of each individual from Pierson who died in WWI, using Canadian military records (as they are digitized by LAC) and local historical sources to add biographical information and photos as available.  This is an ongoing project.

The virtual cemetary on Find-A-Grave can be accessed here.
